Long-term Survival after Aortic Valve Replacement

چکیده
up (up to eight years) was obtained in 153 patients (95%). A total of 34 patients (22%) died during the follow-up period. Including the hospital mortality, the actuarial su.vival rate of our patients with SmeloffCutter prosthesis was 0.69 after the fifth year and 0.611 after the eighth year of follow-up. This is similar to the actuarial survival rate of patients with Starr-Edwards prosthesis but it appears significantly better than the expected survival rate of symptomatic patients with aortic stenosis treated without surgery. Thus, this result supports the contention that aortic valve surgery in properly selected patients can prolong life expectancy in addition to relieving symptoms in patients with aortic valve disease. The majority of surviving patients reported to have improved (88%) since the operation and to be symptom free (82%).

Long-term relative survival rates after heart valve replacement.
The calculation and comparison of relative survival rates after interventional studies is a method that permits correction for important demographic variables, thereby adjusting for the "background mortality" in the general population. Long-term relative survival rates were analyzed in a consecutive series of 2,805 Swedish patients who, on the basis of clinical symptoms, underwent aortic valve ...
متن کاملLong-term outcomes after transcatheter aortic valve replacement in high-risk patients with severe aortic stenosis: the U.K. Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation Registry.
OBJECTIVES The U.K. Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation Registry reported 30-day and 1-year mortality rates of 7.1% and 21.4%, respectively, for patients who underwent transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) in the United Kingdom between 2007 and 2009. The study aim was to report long-term outcomes in this same cohort of patients. BACKGROUND There are few data on outcomes beyond 3 y...

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) for severe aortic stenosis has been proven to be a safe therapeutic and well-established option in patients at high and intermediate surgical risk. TAVR shows a comparable mid-term durability compared to surgical aortic valve replacement. Only minimal data exist in the long-term survival of dialysis patients after cardiac valve replacement. Long-ter...
متن کاملComparable long-term results for porcine and pericardial prostheses after isolated aortic valve replacement
OBJECTIVES Outcome of aortic valve replacement may be influenced by the choice of bioprosthesis. Pericardial heart valves are described to have a favourable haemodynamic profile compared with porcine valves, although the clinical notability of this finding is still controversially debated. Herein, we compared the long-term results of two commonly implanted bioprosthesis at a single centre. ME...
متن کاملFactors influencing long-term survival after aortic valve replacement.
In the aortic stenosis group, the left ventricular (LV) muscle mass index was a good parameter for predicting the prognosis. Associated mitral valve disease had no influence on long term survival after aortic valve replacement. In the aortic insufficiency group, associated mitral valve disease had a marked influence on the results of aortic valve replacement. In general, the aortic insufficienc...
متن کاملThe Effect of Aortic Valve Replacement
We retrospectively studied 252 operated and 47 unoperated patients with isolated aortic valve disease. Aortic valve replacement (AVR) was recommended to all patients based on clinical and hemodynamic data. Preoperative hemodynamic and angiographic data were similar in operated and unoperated cohorts. Seventy-one percent of patients received a Bjork-Shiley prosthesis. Operative mortality was 7% ...
